Sad saga not so sad

"It's because of the low salary." Teachers are so poorly paid. That's a common refrain that appears almost daily in every newspaper in the country, along with classroom size. You can check out the teacher/pupil ration for your state in the National Report Card and decide for yourself.

To find salaries, however, you have to do a little research. Looking at Broward County Public Schools, it's apparent that salary is not a problem. Not if you look closely.

'That works out to an annual $50,340 if teachers worked the 2000 hours that is average in business.'

the above is from the link you supply. i will be glad to work the 12 mo of the calendar in the state pays the salary.

what you contrive means nothing because it does not happen nor will it happen. administrators can get the 12 mo salary if they put the time in.

why would anyone but a citizen of broward county care about it's district salary schedule and supposed benefits?

however, if you must snoop, all arkansas districts post their contracts and salary schedules online.

one thing to be wary of when dealing with statistics. if admin salaries are averaged in with teacher salaries, you get a badly skewed understanding of what the average teacher gets paid in any state.

Poor boopers don't get paid enough to work 9 months? Spare me. What about us that make less in 12 months? No sympathy. Go get a job in a plant if you can't take the heat.

Nine months? Anyone who does not research the facts would address this as an issue for teachers - how about the constant pressure to raise someone else's child by teaching them manners, discipline and respect. If the kids do not pass the state mandated tests, even though the material is taught in the classroom, the fault lies with the teacher, and believe me, sometimes it is the teacher.

As a teacher for over seven years, I am always amazed how people will pay anything to clean their house, but they cry when it comes to paying a respectable salary for teachers. I can take the heat, what I can not take is the lack of anyone, legislator or taxpayer who criticizes the teacher without investigation - how would you like to try to fight high school kids on keeping their
attention with the constant barrage of ipods and cell phones? Or working with other adults who keep giving real teachers a bad name, or listening to the work place blame the teachers for not getting kids ready to become employable?

Kids are constantly looking for ways NOT to do work, and sometimes parents do not help. Hence, the rule that in school "THE CELL PHONE IS OFF AND THE PARENTS SHOULD NOT CALL OR TEXT THEIR CHILD".

Our state legislators make regulations and guidelines and do not seek any advice from REAL CLASSROOM TEACHERS. The same could be said for those in the ad building. If those students who would do the work in school and get the best of their own education - well, maybe we would have a shortage of kids who make less than their teachers by working in the local plants.

It's sad that hatemongers have nothing better to do with their time than teacherbashing and spreading lies. It's evident from the comments on this site many Americans are ignorant as to how much work teaching involves. If it's such a fluff job that pays way too much how come none of you clowns are flocking to the teachers colleges?
